WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, President Donald Trump declared the cessation of sanctions against Syria. This comes after the announcement that President Trump will meet with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa tomorrow in Saudi Arabia.
Last month, Rep. Stutzman had the opportunity to visit Syria and meet with President al-Sharaa, where they discussed the possible suspending or lifting of sanctions, bettering trade relations between the U.S. and Syria, and the potential of Syria joining the Abraham Accords. Rep. Stutzman released the following statement about the meeting and lifting of sanctions:
"The conversations I had with President al-Sharaa while in Syria give me every reason to believe that the country is ready for a fresh start," said Rep. Stutzman. "He has a vision of where he wants his country to go, working toward peace with Israel, and is willing to engage with the West in a way that has been seldom seen from the country in the past. President Trump's decision to lift sanctions on the country will undoubtedly allow the people of Syria the ability to come together to rebuild and work towards making Syria great again!"
