Rep. Sykes Votes No on FY2026 Budget Resolution, Citing Lack of Accountability and Risks to Communities

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) voted no on S. Con. Res. 33, the Republican budget resolution for Fiscal Year 2026, saying it advances immigration enforcement funding without meaningful accountability or safeguards.

The resolution establishes federal budget levels through FY2035 and includes reconciliation instructions that could lead to legislation increasing the deficit by up to $70 billion over the next decade.

While it does not directly appropriate funding, Rep. Sykes said it lays the groundwork for a reconciliation package expected to increase funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) without new oversight or reforms.

"This is a dangerous budget framework that continues to fund rogue agencies without proper safeguards for Americans," said Rep. Sykes. "It strengthens agencies that have repeatedly operated without accountability and caused harm in communities without meaningful recourse, while giving this administration broader tools that risk being used for political purposes rather than public safety. In a district as diverse as Ohio's 13th, this means real families could face increased targeting, heightened scrutiny, and a greater risk of unfair enforcement actions and family separation."

Rep. Sykes said she will continue opposing any framework that supports enforcement authority without strong oversight, due process, and accountability.
