Wednesday, April 29, 2026: Cuesta Water Main Incident

5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, Update

Construction and Road Impacts
In response to the water main emergency affecting approximately 67 households near Mountain View's Cuesta Park, there is now road construction underway for pipeline inspection in the impacted area today at the intersection of Cuesta Drive and Bonita Avenue. A map of the road construction can be viewed here.

The "Do Not Drink" order is isolated for an area just north of Cuesta Park. The water is turned on for flushing toilets only. With new direction from the State Water Resources Control Board, water can be used for irrigating lawns and watering ornamental and non-edible plants.

Restoration of Water Services Update
At this time, the City of Mountain View is preparing for the possibility that the clearance by the California State Water Resources Control Board to restore drinking water will not happen before Sunday, May 3.

With each day's complex and iterative testing and interaction with the State Water Board, the City receives additional information about the status of the water in the affected area and what actions and information the State Water Board requires before it can lift the current "Do Not Drink" order. Only the State can lift this order, and the City does not currently know how long this will take.

The City will continue to provide hotel accommodations (hotel check-out on Monday, May 4) and per diem reimbursement for meals and incidental expenses through Sunday, May 3.

Neighborhood Meeting
The City will contact the residents impacted by the water main contamination incident directly to invite them to the neighborhood meeting. This meeting, which is taking place on Friday, May 1, is for these residents only.

Emergency Water Supplies for Residents
To ensure every household has access to clean water during the ongoing water main emergency, the City is partnering with Water World to deliver water supplies directly to affected household's front door starting tomorrow, April 30.

Your Water Kit: Each residence will receive three 5-gallon jugs of water and a hand pump.

Scheduling Your Delivery: Deliveries require someone to be present. To coordinate a specific time or provide delivery instructions, please call Water World at 408-641-5440.

Staying Supplied: Exchanging empties is easy! Just place your empty jugs outside your front door, and Water World will swap them for full ones. You can also call Water World to notify them that you are ready for a refill.

Need Water Now? If you miss your delivery or need immediate supplies, additional jugs and pumps are staged and ready for pickup at Fire Station 2 (160 Cuesta Dr.) Fire station pickup is dependent on fire company availability, pending emergency incident response. You may call Fire Station 2 at 650-903-6340 to confirm if they are present.
