Longwood approves small tuition increase for 2026-27

Longwood University's Board of Visitors has approved modest increases in tuition and fee charges for the upcoming year, keeping Longwood's average rate change over the last decade among the lowest in Virginia and well below the rate of inflation over that period.

The University's budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year increases spending on scholarship and aid to students, while continuing to invest in full-time tenure-track faculty, a hallmark of Longwood's residential liberal arts education. Because of Commonwealth support and other scholarship resources, most Longwood students receive some form of financial aid, which means they pay a net price that is lower than the full, published price.

Longwood's Board approved a tuition increase of 3.68%, or $330 for the year. Including required fees, Longwood's tuition will be $16,910 for the coming academic year, based on a 30-credit yearly load. Tuition and mandatory fees for out-of-state students will be $29,150 for a 30-credit yearly load.

Since the 2020-21 academic year in the midst of the covid pandemic, the University's tuition increases cumulatively are below inflation by nearly 6%.

"Since Covid and before, we have worked very hard to recognize the challenges that rising costs put on families and worked to keep our tuition increases under inflation," said President Taylor Reveley. "Our goal is to keep Longwood affordable to all families, and we are doing that in a variety of ways, including focused fundraising each year for need-based scholarships that give more Virginians access to higher education. We're operating as efficiently as possible, while continuing to invest in the things that make Longwood special: a beautiful campus, multitude of student opportunities and experiences, and most importantly, more small classes taught by full-time professors than families can find at any other public university in Virginia."
