City of Montgomery Launches “Dexter,” a New AI-Powered Digital Assistant to Help Residents Find Information Faster

Montgomery, Ala. - The City of Montgomery today announced the launch of Dexter, a new AI-powered digital assistant designed to help residents quickly find information, access city services, and navigate city government online.

"Dex" for short, Dexter is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week through the City's website, providing instant answers to common questions and helping connect residents with the information they need.

Whether someone is looking for garbage collection schedules, reporting a pothole, learning about permits, finding a community center, locating city services, or understanding City programs, Dexter is designed to make those answers easier to find without having to search through multiple webpages or wait for office hours.

Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed said residents expect government services to be as accessible and responsive as the technology they use every day.

"Dexter is another step forward in our commitment to making City government easier to access, easier to understand, and more responsive to the people we serve," Reed said. "This tool helps residents get answers when they need them while allowing City staff to focus on delivering services throughout our community."

Dexter uses trusted information from the City of Montgomery's website and digital resources to provide clear, easy-to-understand responses. The assistant can communicate in multiple languages and is designed to help residents find information at any time of day, from any device.

The launch of Dexter is part of the City's ongoing efforts to modernize services, improve transparency, and make government more accessible through technology. As the platform grows, additional capabilities and integrations may be added to further streamline how residents interact with City departments.
