Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon Professor Biman Prasad was invited to meet with residents of Balata College and Nadalei Village in Tavua yesterday, as part of his community engagements.
The visit was an opportunity for the Acting Prime Minister to listen to the concerns of the people, share details of government's plans, and have an open dialogue about the challenges faced by communities in the area.
In his address, Hon. Prasad outlined measures announced in the recent National Budget and explained how Government policies are designed to bring real impact to people's lives.
"The Budget is not just about numbers - it is about creating opportunities, investing in essential services, and ensuring that no Fijian is left behind," Hon. Prasad said.
While appreciating and acknowledging the work that the government has done so far, residents also asked for assistance from the Acting Prime Minister with regards to health services, infrastructure, and the sugar industry. Hon. Prasad assured them that these remain key priorities for Government.
"We are listening, and we are committed to working with you to address these issues. Your voices matter in shaping the way forward for our nation," he said.
The Acting Prime Minister added that face-to-face consultations with communities are essential to ensure government policies respond effectively to the needs of ordinary Fijians.
"When we sit together like this, it allows us to hear your challenges directly and find solutions together. That is how we will build a stronger Fiji," Hon. Prasad said.
The engagement was well received by residents who welcomed the opportunity to openly discuss their challenges with the Acting Prime Minister.
