LAFAYETTE WARMING CENTER TO CLOSE FRIDAY
Lafayette, LA - As temperatures rise and freezing conditions subside, Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) will conclude operations of the warming center at Dupuis Recreation Center (1212 E. Pont Des Mouton Road, Lafayette, LA) on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 8:30 AM.
This effort marks a significant milestone as it was the first emergency plan developed and fully executed under the newly established Lafayette Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP). Remarkably, the plan was finalized just one week before its enactment, underscoring the swift and coordinated response by all involved.
Since opening on January 5, this facility has provided vital refuge for more than 70 individuals experiencing homelessness or inadequate heating during the recent cold weather. LCG extends its gratitude to community partners, especially Catholic Charities, ARCH, Second Harvest, American Red Cross, Lafayette City Marshal, along with LCG staff, whose tireless efforts made this endeavor possible. LCG also acknowledges the invaluable contributions of volunteers and donors throughout the week. From serving warm meals to providing hygiene kits, their generosity played a critical role in supporting vulnerable residents during this time.
LCG and OHSEP will continue to monitor weather conditions and collaborate with local organizations to address future needs as they arise. The support and partnership of the community remain key to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Lafayette Parish residents.
