Subscribe to the Ward 2 Newsletter
Dear Santaneros,
As we welcome the month of March, the arrival of spring brings warmer days and new opportunities to come together as a community. Over the past few weeks, our city has continued to celebrate the diversity, culture, and civic pride that make our community so special - from celebrating Tết and honoring Black history to strengthening international friendships and highlighting the many resources available to our residents.
This month's newsletter shares updates on community events, cultural celebrations, and local programs that continue to make our city a vibrant place to live, work, and raise a family. I'm also excited to highlight opportunities for residents to enjoy the outdoors this spring, connect with neighbors, and stay engaged with what's happening across our community.
Thank you for staying involved and for continuing to make our city such a strong and welcoming place for all. I look forward to seeing many of you at upcoming events and around the community this spring.
In Solidarity,
Councilmember Vazquez

Thank you to the Orange County Heritage Council and the Shipp family for always extending the invitation to be part of their annual Black History Parade and Unity Festival. It's beautiful to see people come together in unity and celebration of culture. From the Stonewall Riots, where Marsha P. Johnson and others helped advance the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, to prominent leaders like Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr., who fought for civil rights for Black Americans. We also recognize heroes in our own community, like Dorothy Mulkey, who advocated for housing rights and worked to erase redlining across the United States. Black history is American history.
Santa Ana's rich culture and heritage are what make our community such a beautiful place to live. It is an honor to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Vietnamese and Asian Americans in Santa Ana as we celebrate Tết. I hope everyone who attended this year's Tết Festival enjoyed the live music, cultural performances, and local vendors that made the event so special. It was wonderful meeting so many of you and celebrating together. I look forward to continuing to support and celebrate the vibrant cultures that make Santa Ana such a strong and diverse community. Wishing everyone a joyful and prosperous New Year!
This year I joined several of my colleagues in visiting our sister city, Sahuayo, MX. It was an honor to be part of this trip and continue strengthening the bond between Santa Ana and Sahuayo. It was beautiful to see the deep ties some of our residents have with the city of Sahuayo. We were delighted and pleasantly surprised to meet Santa Ana residents while visiting there! Our city looks forward to continuing this connection and welcoming the Sahuayo Business Expo this spring here in Santa Ana.
Thank you to the City of Westminster for inviting me to be part of this year's Tết Parade. It was truly an honor to join the celebration and witness such a vibrant display of culture, tradition, and community. Tết is a special time to celebrate new beginnings, reflect on the past year, and come together with family and friends. The energy and community spirit throughout the parade were incredible to see. I'm grateful for the warm welcome and for the opportunity to celebrate alongside so many residents, community leaders, and families. Events like this highlight the rich cultural diversity that makes our region so special. Wishing everyone a joyful, prosperous, and healthy new year!

California Attorney General Rob Bonta and Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a new online portal to assist members of the public in sharing information with the California Department of Justice regarding potentially unlawful activities by federal agents in California, such as those from ICE, CBP, or federalized National Guard personnel. The Trump administration and ICE have been unlawfully abusing their power, we must hold this administration accountable and document these unlawful attacks on our citizens and community. Examples of unlawful actions include excessive force, unlawful searches or arrests, wrongful detentions, and civil rights violations.
