For Immediate Release: Wednesday, September 17, 2025

Weeklong Activities Include 'Go, Grow and Get Active' Signature Event on Monday, Oct. 6 in Rockville

Montgomery County will join communities worldwide in celebrating Active Aging Week from Monday, Oct. 6, through Saturday, Oct. 12, as part of an international effort to promote the benefits of active, engaged and healthy lifestyles for older adults. The week will kick off with a signature event, "Go, Grow and Get Active," on Monday, Oct. 6, at the Nancy H. Dacek North Potomac Community Recreation Center, featuring health workshops, wellness activities and a resource fair. The Nancy H. Dacek North Potomac Community Recreation Center is located at 13850 Travilah Road in Rockville.

"Montgomery County is committed to making sure older residents have opportunities to stay connected, active, and healthy in ways that work for them," said County Executive Marc Elrich. "Active Aging Week reflects our values of inclusion, dignity, and community support. I encourage all older adults to explore what the week has to offer, whether it's trying something new, connecting with neighbors, or learning more about resources that can improve their quality of life."

Throughout the week, more than 50 free and low-cost programs, events and activities will take place across the County for residents age 55 and older. The programs are co-sponsored by various County government agencies and departments, including Health and Human Services, Environmental Protection, Recreation, Montgomery Parks, and Public Libraries, the City of Gaithersburg, local community organizations, nonprofits and hospitals.

The signature event, "Go, Grow and Get Active," will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, at the Nancy H. Dacek North Potomac Community Recreation Center. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. Participants will have access to more than 40 interactive workshops and wellness activities from 9-11:45 a.m., designed to enhance physical, mental and emotional well-being. Sessions will include yoga, tai chi, dancing, writing, pickleball, rock painting and more.

A resource fair will follow from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring more than 20 organizations offering information about services and support available to older adults and caregivers. Free health screenings, including bone density, blood pressure, and mental health, will be available.

Registration is required for the signature event, and it can be completed online on the ActiveMontgomery website (Special Event Code: R07107-150).
