Gugel Reappointed to DOE Advisory Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C.- On October 1, Howard Gugel, NERC's vice president of Regulatory Oversight, was reappointed to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)Electricity Advisory Committee(EAC). This will be his second term on the committee, following his initial appointment for a two-year term in August 2022. In his role at NERC, Mr. Gugel is responsible for directing programs and processes to monitor, review, and evaluate program effectiveness of the ERO Enterprise's implementation of risk-based compliance monitoring and enforcement. He previously served as the vice president of Engineering and Standards, providing engineering analysis and support for NERC and directing the standards development process.

The EAC's mission is to provide advice to the U.S. Department of Energy in implementing the Energy Policy Act of 2005, executing the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, and modernizing U.S. grid infrastructure. The EAC includes members from across the energy community, including state and Regional Entities, utilities, cyber security and national security firms, the natural gas sector, equipment manufacturers, construction and architectural companies, non-governmental organizations and other electricity-related organizations. Mr. Gugel brings 34 years of experience in the electric utility industry to this appointment, which was executed by U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm.
