Statement by NCSL CEO on Apparent Assassination of Minnesota Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman
DENVER-NCSL CEO Tim Storey issued the following statement following reports of the shootings of Minnesota Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman, Sen. John Hoffman and their spouses.
"We are shaken to our core by the horrifying news of the apparent assassination of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, and the attempted killings of Sen. John Hoffman and his wife.
"The entire legislative family will grieve the loss of Speaker Emerita Hortman. Our prayers are with Speaker Hortman and Sen. Hoffman's families, and the entire Minnesota Legislature.
"We cannot and will not accept a nation where elected officials are targets of violent acts."
