New Permanent Representative of Namibia Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Elvis Toolouta Shiweda, the new Permanent Representative of Namibia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment in Geneva, Mr. Shiweda served as Ambassador of Namibia to Senegal, with concurrent accreditation to Mali, the Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Guinea from December 2020 to January 2023. He later held senior leadership positions at the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, including as Acting Deputy Executive Director and Head of the Department of Bilateral Relations and Cooperation.

Since joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2004, Mr. Shiweda has represented Namibia in various capacities, both at home and abroad. His previous diplomatic postings include serving as Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Namibia to the African Union and Ethiopia in Addis Ababa, and as First Secretary and Alternate Permanent Representative at the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Namibia in Vienna, Austria.

Mr. Shiweda holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from Webster University, St. Louis, United States, and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing Management from the University of Namibia. He is married and has three children.
