Construction on 8th Street starts at Fountain Creek bridge

The eastbound lanes of the Highway 24 Frontage Road, from northbound 8th Street to the Highway 24 intersections, will close to traffic beginning Monday, June 9. Motorists will be detoured to make a right turn from 8th Street to Highway 24.

The sidewalk on the east side of the 8th Street bridge and the Midland Trail bridge over the creek also close on June 9. Pedestrians and trail users should detour to the west side of 8th Street to avoid the construction.

The closures are necessary to prepare the construction site and place equipment for the removal of the Midland Trail bridge over Fountain Creek, scheduled for the night of June 12.

After removing the trail bridge, crews will begin widening the 8th Street bridge on the east side. They will add a northbound lane across the bridge and replace the Midland Trail bridge with an attached multi-use path on the bridge. This phase of the project is scheduled to run through early 2026.

During this phase of construction, the bridge will remain open in both directions, although occasional lane shifts and lane closures should be expected. Access to local businesses will remain open and clearly visible.

The project addresses infrastructure and mobility needs on 8th Street between Fountain Creek and Motor City Drive. For more information on the project and the latest construction updates, visit coloradosprings.gov/8thstreetto sign up for email or text alerts.
