(BOWIE, Md.) - On a sunny Sunday afternoon, walkers, runners, and joggers gathered at Parking Lot J at Bowie State University to participate in the annual Bulldog 5K Walk/Run, an event that brings together students, faculty, and supporters to raise funds for student athletes.
"May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, and this event helped to raise awareness about the benefits of physical activity," said Jennifer Coke, Bowie State's executive director of philanthropic engagement. "Our athletics department does not receive any state funding, which makes our 5K Walk/Run even more crucial for supporting the student-athletes who represent our university."
The proceeds from this year's 5K will go directly toward funding academic resources and support services that help student-athletes thrive both on the field and in the classroom at Bowie State University.
