SHILOH, Tenn. - To celebrate the last weekend of the summer season, Shiloh National Military Park will present its final series of Civil War cannon firing demonstrations on Sept. 5.

Each 20-minute program will teach visitors about the vital role artillery played in the Battle of Shiloh and the Civil War and explore the organization of Civil War artillery, the duties of the cannoneers, the types of ammunition used and the proper loading and firing procedures.

These free demonstrations will take place across the street from the visitor center at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. For the demonstrations, the Shiloh Cannon Crew will fire a historic 6-pounder Field Gun, the most commonly used field artillery piece at the Battle of Shiloh.
