Mesa Electric Smart Peaks is a program that helps customers cut their electricity use during periods of high demand while helping the reliability of the power grid. Participants must be commercial or residential electric customers within Mesa's electric service area.
Participants agree to up to 12 brief conservation events between May 1 and September 30. During these events, smart thermostats are adjusted for a few hours when electricity demand and costs are highest.
"Smart Peaks helps Mesa Electric Utility reduce energy demand during peak summer hours, easing strain on the grid when needs are highest," said Deb Ferraro, Mesa Energy Resources Coordinator. "This not only helps stabilize the grid but can also help lower the cost of purchased power during times of high demand, when power is typically more expensive.
To participate, customers must have a qualifying smart thermostat connected to their central air conditioning system and a Mesa utility account in good-standing. The thermostat must be internet-connected. Participant can opt out of a conservation event at any time by adjusting their thermostat.
Program participants receive $100 their first year, consisting of a $50 digital gift card upon enrollment into Smart Peaks and a $50 digital gift card after the summer season. Participants will continue to receive a $50 gift card each additional year they remain enrolled, even if they opt out of some conservation events.
Mesa electric customers can learn more, check eligibility, view compatible thermostats and enroll at mesaaz.gov/smartpeaks.
