On 6 August 2025, Prof. Dwikorita Karnawati, Head of the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysic (BMKG), visited the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) and met the Director-General NOMURA Ryoichi.
Both sides expressed their appreciation for the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two organizations and agreed on further strengthening of collaboration in various fields. Prof. Karnawati stated the necessity of further advancement and expectations for partnerships between the two organization in the field of earthquake and tsunami information services. Mr. Nomura highlighted JMA's appreciation for BMKG's leadership and contribution to the WMO regional and global community as an active member of the WMO Executive Council, and for the activities of WMO regional centers operated by BMKG.
During the visit, they discussed early warning systems mainly on earthquake and tsunami. The delegation also toured JMA's earthquake/tsunami and forecast operation facilities.
