Community Effort Leads to Massive Cleanup Across New Brunswick



NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (May 13, 2026) - More than 170 volunteers fanned out across the City throughout April to collect more than a ton of waste as part of New Brunswick's Earth Month celebrations.

Organized by the New Brunswick Division of Clean Communities, the initiative saw 177 participants dedicate 353 hours to remove 1,975 pounds of trash and 525 pounds of recyclables from local streets and parks, including major cleanup efforts at Boyd Park on April 18 and citywide events on Earth Day.

Participating groups from Rutgers included: Alpha Kappa Psi, Beta Alpha Psi, Office of Climate Action, and Off-Campus Living and Community Partnerships. Volunteers also included the Raritan Headwaters Association, A.C Redshaw Elementary School, Johnson & Johnson and the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
