Eighth Army conducted an honors ceremony for Maj. Gen. Jason A. Curl, the command's incoming deputy commanding general for operations, at the Eighth Army Headquarters Memorial on Oct. 22.
The ceremony recognized Curl's distinguished service and welcomed him to Eighth Army, where he assumes responsibilities supporting operational readiness, combined training and the Republic of Korea-U.S. alliance.
Curl commissioned as an infantry officer from the U.S. Military Academy in 1995. His previous senior assignments included commanding general of the Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk, Louisiana; director of operations for Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and Syria; and deputy commanding general for operations for the 10th Mountain Division.
He also commanded formations in the 82nd Airborne Division and 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and completed three combat tours in Afghanistan and two in Iraq. His operational and training experience prepared him to help lead Eighth Army's readiness and combined operations mission.
His leadership will help ensure the command remains ready today, prepared for tomorrow and committed to defending both nations.
"I'm eager to see firsthand how you train, how you operate, and how you continue to sharpen our multidomain lethality," Curl said. "Together, we will ensure that our defense remains seamless, our training remains vigorous, and our readiness is unquestioned."
Eighth Army is the bedrock of the U.S.-ROK alliance and the U.S. Army's forward presence in Northeast Asia. As an element of the combined joint force, Eighth Army postures ready forces, modernizes the alliance and competes to deter aggression, deny adversary objectives and, if necessary, win in conflict.
