Rep. Summer Lee Highlights More Than $2 Million in Community Project Funding for Monroeville Water Infrastructure and McKeesport-Versailles Viaduct Project

PITTSBURGH, PA - APRIL 1, 2026 - Today, Congresswoman Summer L. Lee (PA-12)  joined local leaders in Monroeville and McKeesport to celebrate more than $2 million in federal Community Project Funding she secured for two major infrastructure projects that will strengthen public safety, improve quality of life, and support long-term regional growth across Western Pennsylvania.

In Monroeville, Congresswoman Lee visited the Monroeville Municipal Authority to tour the facility and mark $1,092,000 in Community Project Funding she secured for critical water infrastructure improvements. The funding will support the replacement of approximately 9,700 linear feet of aging asbestos-cement water lines, helping improve the safety and reliability of the local water distribution system, reduce the risk of costly pipe failures, and address health and environmental concerns tied to deteriorating infrastructure.

The event came ahead of McKeesport Council's upcoming vote on PennDOT's $14 million contribution to the project, underscoring the importance of sustained public investment to move the project forward.

"Delivering federal dollars back home is one of the most important parts of this job," said Congresswoman Summer Lee. "These investments are about making sure our communities have safe water, reliable infrastructure, and the resources they need to thrive. For too long, communities across western Pennsylvania have been asked to wait while their roads, bridges, and public systems deteriorated. I fought to secure these funds because Monroeville, McKeesport, and the Mon Valley deserve real investment, not neglect. These projects show what is possible when we put communities first. Whether it's replacing aging water lines or advancing long-overdue bridge and transportation improvements, I will keep working to bring federal resources home and make sure our region gets the support and attention it deserves."

At the Monroeville event, Congresswoman Lee toured the facility with local elected officials, participated in a photo opportunity, and presented a ceremonial check recognizing the federal award. In McKeesport, she delivered remarks emphasizing the importance of infrastructure investment for the Mon Valley and the role federal funding can play in unlocking broader state and local support for transformative projects.

The funding is part of the Community Project Funding program, which allows members of Congress to direct federal resources toward critical projects that address community priorities.

Since taking office, Congresswoman Lee has delivered more than $2.7 billion in federal funding to PA-12, including major investments in infrastructure, affordable transit, clean energy manufacturing, workforce development, and community spaces.

Through her Community Project Funding efforts, Lee has secured direct investments for community-based organizations, including a $1 million CPF award to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, $450,000 to the Trade Institute of Pittsburgh, over $1.5 million in federal support for the Tree of Life rebuilding and healing initiatives, $1 million in Community Project Funding for historic renovations at the Carnegie Library of Homestead, and more than $1 million in federal funding to combat blight and revitalize housing in North Braddock.

These projects are part of more than $24.9 million in Community Project Funding secured during her time in Congress. Congresswoman Lee's office has consistently directed federal dollars to historically overlooked communities to ensure equitable access to opportunities and long-term regional growth and stability.

Congresswoman Summer Lee serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Committee on Education and Workforce. Since taking office in January 2023, shehas delivered historic levels of federal investment totaling over $2.7 Billion brought back to Western PA, including over $580 million for infrastructure, over $110 million for affordable transit, over $500 million to keep clean energy manufacturing at home in Pennsylvania, and over $55 million on clean energy efforts in and around schools to help keep our kids and communities safe. These investments will help improve Western Pennsylvania's infrastructure and transit, ensure cleaner air and drinking water, lower housing costs, fund research institutions, fuel clean manufacturing, fund STEM innovation and entrepreneurship, boost workforce development, and create thousands of good paying union jobs.  Lee and her team have also delivered casework and constituent services to over 4,000 constituents with issues ranging from helping our seniors and disabled community access Medicare and social security to helping folks secure housing and helping families with immigration support and passports.
