According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, the Washington County Sheriff's Office arrested a 58-year-old White Creek woman following an investigation into welfare fraud involving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
The investigation determined that between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022, Michele M. Tobin failed to report unearned income on SNAP benefit applications which resulted in an overpayment of $5,679 in public assistance benefits.
As a result of the investigation, Tobin was arrested and charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a Class D felony.
Tobin was arraigned at Centralized Arraignment and released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Fort Edward Town Court at a later date.
The case was handled by Investigator C. Sullivan in coordination with the Washington County Department of Social Services.
