On February 12, 2026, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in The Bahamas hosted a Chinese New Year reception. Nearly 400 guests attended the reception, including Her Excellency, the Most Hon. Dame Cynthia Pratt, Governor General of The Bahamas, the Hon. Prime Minister Philip Davis and Mrs. Davis, the Hon. Michael Pintard, Leader of the Opposition, several Cabinet Ministers, representatives from Chinese enterprises, and the local Chinese community.
In her remarks, Ambassador Yan highlighted the achievements of China's 14th Five-Year Plan and offered insights into "the essence of 'China's governance'". She emphasized that the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan will bring more opportunities to the world. Ambassador Yan spoke positively of the bilateral relations, reaffirming China's readiness to work with The Bahamas to uphold multilateralism and pursue mutually beneficial cooperation.
In his address, Prime Minister Davis noted that the practical cooperation over the past year has tangibly improved the lives of the Bahamian people and strengthened resilience and development in areas that matter greatly to small island states like The Bahamas. He reaffirmed The Bahamas' longstanding adherence to the one-China principle and looked forward to expanding its relations with China.
The reception also featured vibrant cultural displays and high-tech exhibition booths, drawing long queues of guests. Prime Minister Davis and Ambassador Yan joined in the C.H. Reeves' Junkanoo rushout, adding a strong touch of festive joy to the reception. The Bahamian media widely reported on the event.
