Lincoln University values strong partnerships with community organizations and is committed to hosting educational programming that reflects our mission, history, and responsibility to our campus community. As part of this year's Black History Month calendar, a community-led program examined the University's founding in the years following the Civil War. While the program's historical focus was appropriate and educational, we acknowledge and respect concerns that the image used did not fully align with the expectations, care, and respect this type of programming deserves.
As a university founded for the purpose of educating freed Black individuals, we recognize the importance of celebrating that rich history during the month of February and throughout the year with University-led events that highlight our diverse faculty, staff, students, alumni and scholars from around the globe. Our next public event, the second annual Lorenzo Johnston Greene Black History Month Celebration, is scheduled for Wednesday, February 25, at 5:30 p.m. in Pawley Theatre. There are also several internal events scheduled, including a Black Business Expo, a Black History Trivia Night, and an invitation-only George Washington Carver Heritage Days event.
