Exciting things coming to Santa Rosa County:

Medal of Honor Proclamation

The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners honored Command Sergeant Major Robert Patterson for his extraordinary bravery and heroism during the Vietnam War. Enlisting in 1966, Sgt. Patterson served with the 101st Airborne Division and, during a 1968 battle near La Chu, Vietnam, displayed exceptional courage by destroying multiple enemy bunkers under heavy fire-actions for which he received the Medal of Honor from President Richard Nixon in 1969. He continued his distinguished 26-year Army career, serving as a drill sergeant and in the Gulf War before retiring as a Command Sergeant Major. The proclamation recognizes the 56th anniversary of his Medal of Honor award.

4-H Week Proclamation

The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed October 5-11, 2025, as National 4-H Week. The proclamation recognizes the 4-H motto, "To Make the Best Better," and highlights the importance of volunteer service in bringing people together and strengthening communities. It encourages citizens to participate in community projects alongside youth, volunteers, and 4-H staff to invest in the future and celebrate the spirit of service.

Day of Caring

United Way West Florida presented to the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners on the 2025 Day of Caring, scheduled for October 24th. Day of Caring is a community-wide initiative that connects volunteers and resources with local agencies and schools needing support. Day of Caring is an opportunity for community members to spend an exciting day volunteering their time to complete hands-on projects that benefit local non-profits.

Interlocal Agreement with Okaloosa County

The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners approved an interlocal agreement with Okaloosa County related to FDOT funding received by Okaloosa

County for alleviating traffic concerns on Highway 98 via a connector road between Okaloosa and Santa Rosa County.

Automated Weather Observing System at Peter Prince Field

The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners approved a task order to AVCON, Inc. for the professional planning, design, bidding, and construction services for the Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) at Peter Prince Field in the amount of $109,511.The project scope includes site planning, FAA and FCC coordination, design development, preparation of bid documents, and construction administration through project closeout. Improvements include installation of AWOS field equipment, tower and sensors, power connections, site work, and operator equipment in the terminal building.

Waste Tire Amnesty Days 2025/2026

The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners approved hosting Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) funded waste tire amnesty day events at the Central Landfill on the following dates:

  • October 11, 2025
  • November 8, 2025
  • December 13, 2025
  • January 10, 2026

Additionally, the board approved to host the

waste tire amnesty day events at the Jay Transfer Station on January 6,

8, and 10, 2026.
