Visit of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yiannis Loverdos to Berlin (15-16.06.2026)

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yiannis Loverdos visited Berlin, where he held meetings with representatives of the Greek diaspora and educational institutions.

Notably, Mr. Loverdos met with the President of the Greek Community of Berlin, as well as with representatives of local Greek diaspora associations. Discussions focused on issues of concern to the Greek community in Germany, while the Deputy Minister briefed participants on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' initiatives for Greeks Abroad, as well as on the possibility of participating in national elections by postal vote. He also provided clarifications regarding the relevant procedure, emphasizing the importance of exercising their right to vote from abroad.

The Deputy Minister also visited the Department of Modern Greek Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin and met with Professor of Modern Greek Studies and Director of the Center for Modern Greece (CeMoG), Miltos Pechlivanos. Their discussion focused on the academic program of the Chair of Modern Greek Studies, the activities of the Center for Modern Greece (CeMoG), and the broader development of Modern Greek Studies in Germany.

Moreover, the Deputy Minister attended the unveiling ceremony of a commemorative plaque honoring Grigorios Paikos and Nikolaos Bostantzoglou, donors of the plot of land on which the new premises of the Embassy of Greece were built. He subsequently attended a musical event held at the Embassy, in the presence of numerous members of the Greek diaspora.

Finally, Mr. Loverdos met and exchanged views with correspondents of Greek media outlets based in Germany.
