Tallahassee State College officially opened its new Innovation Hub with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Lt. Governor Jay Collins, college leaders, faculty, and community partners.
Located on the first floor of the TSC Library, the Innovation Hub is a state-of-the-art learning environment designed to give students hands-on experience with emerging technologies and workforce-driven skills.
The $3.6 million project was funded through the State of Florida's Workforce Development Capitalization Incentive Grant (CAP) program and took two years to complete.
"This space represents exactly where higher education needs to go," said Dr. Jim Murdaugh, President of TSC. "Students learn best by doing, and the Innovation Hub gives them the tools to experiment, collaborate, and develop the skills employers need right now."
The new facility bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world application, allowing students to apply what they learn using advanced technology and collaborative spaces. The hub also encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together students from multiple programs to work on projects that mirror the teamwork required in today's workforce.
Lt. Governor Jay Collins joined the celebration, emphasizing that modern, elevated workspaces are essential for advancing higher education.
"The Innovation Hub is a space where ideas, industry, and education come together to move our state forward," said Collins. "We're not just celebrating a moment. We're celebrating more than a new space. It's a vision."
Designed by BKJ Architecture and constructed by Southern Standard Construction, the Innovation Hub features five specialized learning spaces that support high-demand workforce fields.
These include:
In addition to supporting current students, the Innovation Hub will play an important role in engaging dual enrollment students by introducing them to advanced technologies and helping them explore career pathways in fields such as Applied Artificial Intelligence, Computer Programming, Supply Chain Management, and Engineering Technology.
The Innovation Hub is also supported by a $200,000 multi-year investment from the Tallahassee State College Foundation, made possible through proceeds from its signature fundraiser, Cleaver & Cork. The investment will help support the launch and long-term success of the hub while expanding hands-on learning opportunities for students.
With the opening of the Innovation Hub, Tallahassee State College continues to expand hands-on learning opportunities that prepare students for high-demand careers and strengthen the workforce pipeline for North Florida and beyond.
