University of Alaska Southeast hosts first open house since pre-pandemic years

November 7, 2025

On Saturday, Oct. 25, the University of Alaska Southeast Juneau campus hosted an open house for community members and prospective students. It was the first event of its kind since the years before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Open house attendees learned about the application process from admissions staff, attended a scholarship fair, and learned how to pay for college with financial aid staff. They also visited with students from campus clubs and engaged with staff from the Writing Center, Career Services, Study Away, and other resource programs.

Participants met with faculty to learn about academic programs and experienced demonstrations including dugout canoe and totem pole carving with the Northwest Coast Arts program, a Yamaha engine demo with the Power Technology program, knot-tying with the Outdoor Studies program, and intertidal critter touch tanks, squid dissection, and a visit to a salmon weir with the Marine Biology program.

The open house was filled with great energy, providing visitors with a chance to experience something UAS is known for: meaningful, one-on-one connections with leaders in their fields.
