CONCORD UNIVERSITY TAPPED AMONG COLLEGES OF DISTINCTION

ATHENS, WV - Concord University is proud to announce that we have been named to the 2025-26 Colleges of Distinction, an annual list of the schools that provide the best undergraduate experiences across the U.S. The institutions differ in size, expenses, location, programs, and more, but they all share a dedication and intense commitment to enhancing every student's journey toward graduation.

In addition to recommending the most outstanding colleges of distinction nationwide, the Colleges of Distinction organization also calls out institutions with specific programs that go above and beyond to serve students. Concord earned recognition as a:

  • West Virginia College of Distinction
  • Public College of Distinction
  • Business College of Distinction
  • Education College of Distinction
  • Nursing College of Distinction
  • College of Military Support

According to the Colleges of Distinction website, Best Colleges in the U.S. for 2025 | Find Your Perfect Fit Today, "We believe that a great education is about more than just prestige-it's about finding the right college for each student."

"We are honored that Concord University has been recognized as a College of Distinction. This recognition affirms our deep commitment to providing a high-quality, student-centered education that prepares graduates for meaningful lives of service and success," CU President Bethany Meighen said. "At Concord, we take great pride in offering an experience that is both affordable and personal, where every student is known, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential."

The research process that leads to the listings and awards for Colleges of Distinction, relies on selectivity and test scores, along with an evaluation of four factors that impact student success: student engagement, great teaching, vibrant communities, and successful outcomes. Colleges of Distinction doesn't rank schools in numerical order, because doing so might lead to a false sense of certainty that one institution is better than any other. Instead, officials there highlight schools that offer specific strengths and exceptional student experiences.

"Concord has always been about people, our students, our faculty, and our community. This recognition simply highlights what we already know: Concord is a place to find your purpose and belonging," Dr. Amanda Sauchuck, CU associate provost and director of assessment, said.

Selections are based on research into integrated post-secondary education data system, intense interviews with the representatives, and the results of the schools' outcomes.

Known for its welcoming community and stunning Appalachian setting, Concord has roots as a public liberal arts institution dedicated to fostering personal growth, academic achievement, and career readiness. The school also provides students with modern, technological, and scientific programs, such as nursing, physician assistant, cybersecurity, health sciences, and more. Students gain both the knowledge and confidence to pursue successful careers and lives of purpose.

"I am incredibly proud to work for an institution like Concord University, where our commitment to serving students in a holistic and meaningful way is reflected in this recognition as a College of Distinction," Chief Student Affairs Officer and Dean of Students Anna Hardy said. "Every day, I see the dedication of our faculty and staff as they support students' academic, personal, and professional growth. Equally inspiring are our students, who take what they learn at Concord and use it to make positive, lasting impacts in their communities."

Built on the motto "Come to learn. Go to serve," Concord packages a combination of strong academics, caring faculty, and abundant opportunities for involvement, ensuring that students graduate ready to make an impact on the world around them.

Tallying 1,387 degree-seeking undergrads, 93% of which are full-time students, CU emphasizes learning by doing, encouraging students to apply what they learn through internships, undergraduate research, service projects, and other leadership opportunities. Education majors gain experience at the heads of their own classes in regional schools, while business students work in real-world case studies, and science majors often assist faculty with hands-on research.

Students also broaden horizons through study abroad programs and service-learning initiatives to adapt and lead in diverse settings. These learning experiences ensure that CU graduates leave school equipped with academic knowledge, practical skills, and a global perspective.

Colleges of Distinction change every year, keeping information up to date and reflecting schools that continue to excel in student engagement, academic innovation, and career preparation. Colleges of Distinction aims to ensure that the lists highlight the best colleges in the U.S. each year, based on current information.
