SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - Shepherd University's senior capstone exhibitions will feature the work of emerging artists across multiple venues in Shepherdstown this April. Spanning painting, mixed media, and immersive visual storytelling, the exhibitions are the culmination of years of study by Shepherd's graduating fine art students.
Somnolence is a solo exhibition by Beck Hartman and will be at Eclectic Gallery from April 10-12. An opening reception will take place on April 10 from 5-8 p.m. Hartman's contemporary paintings focus on quiet, often overlooked moments, such as figures and animals at rest. The work examines sleep as both a psychological refuge and a space for emotional processing.
Also open April 10-12, Reminiscences will feature the work of Shepherd student artists Charity Lundberg, Abby Flores, and Madison Loving at the War Memorial Building. The exhibition explores personal and collective memory through paintings, drawings, mixed media, and digital works. A public reception with live music and refreshments will be held on April 10 at 5 p.m., and artwork and prints will be available for purchase throughout the weekend.
The final exhibition, Beneath What I Can See, opens April 17 with a reception from 4-8 p.m. at Skull City Studio and runs through April 19. In this exhibition, student artists Mya Dempster and Georgia Jones bring together complementary artistic approaches that investigate the boundaries between internal experience and outward perception. Dempster's fluid figurative paintings explore identity and transformation, while Jones's surreal, anatomically inspired compositions invite viewers into layered, subconscious environments.
All exhibitions are free and open to the public.
These exhibitions highlight Shepherd University's commitment to fostering creative exploration and preparing students to contribute meaningfully to the arts and broader cultural landscape.
