ICFGM Weekly Sandwich Making for the Homeless

Listed by Indian Community Fund for Greater Memphis (ICFGM)

Date: Sunday, January 25, 2026 - Sunday, February 22, 2026

Register: https://givepul.se/fqkll6

About the Event:

The weekly sandwich making effort has been going on since the summer of 2023. It has become integral in addressing food insecurity in the Memphis downtown area. The folks at Catholic Charities do a remarkable job in making sure that the hungry who show up at their mission are not turned away. The Indian Community has been inspirational by funding this effort and volunteering weekly to make and transport these sandwiches. The best part is that we have had so many non-Indian friends come and join in our effort. A lot of new friends have been made! Come join the movement!

Here's what Kiki Water, Director at Catholic Charities, had to say about the ongoing effort:

We continued to be blessed by ICFGM's generosity and commitment to our mission of helping our neighbors in need! We are a small staff with a limited budget and we cannot do this work without the support of individuals and groups like yours!

  • This sandwich ministry has been the instrument by which our organization consistently lives out that gospel and humanitarian value to feed the hungry each and every day. We serve between 160-200 homeless and very poor individuals each day. The goal is to give these folks enough protein/calories to get them through a day. Therefore, we try to put 2 sandwiches in each bag. While we have a couple of other groups that also contribute sandwiches weekly, there are many days that more people come than what we have allotted. So, not only do your sandwiches ensure that we can serve all those that come, but also those additional hungry people that come after our daily allotment has run out. This is life-changing and for some, life-sustaining!
  • These sandwiches are the frontline of our ministry. Not only do the sandwiches fulfill the basic survival need of food, but they enable us to build relationships and build trust with those experiencing homelessness. With the consistency of this sandwich ministry, we are able to be on our front porch every weekday, starting conversations and sharing solutions with people that would otherwise likely avoid us. As simple as a sandwich may seem, without it, all of our other ministries, all the way to housing, would be greatly diminished. We cannot overestimate the importance of this work from ICFGM.
