Media Note

Office of the Spokesperson

May 4, 2026

The Department of State congratulates Ireland on joining the Artemis Accords. Ireland is the 66th country to sign the Accords to date, pledging its commitment to peaceful space exploration and use.

Ireland's Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke signed the Accords on behalf of the Republic of Ireland on May 4, 2026. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman and Chief of Staff to the Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs William Cappelletti witnessed and celebrated the signing at a ceremony at the Mary W. Jackson NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. This milestone reflects the enduring bond between the United States and Ireland, rooted in shared values and over two centuries of friendship, as both nations work together on space cooperation, trade, and addressing global challenges.

The United States and seven other countries established the Artemis Accords in 2020 to serve as a set of practical principles to guide responsible space exploration. Ireland joins the United States and 64 other nations in affirming the Accords' principles for sustainable civil space activity. The Department of State and NASA lead the United States' outreach and implementation of the Accords.
