Patients and members will experience a new portal known as Avera MyChart
On May 30, Avera and Avera Health Plans are converting to a new electronic health record (EHR) system through Epic. Avera patients and members will have a new, more robust portal known as Avera MyChart.
This transition includes all Avera care locations including hospitals, clinics and at-home services, along with system-wide services such as revenue and billing, claims processing and Avera Health Plans. Many Avera partner sites are also transitioning to MyChart.
Avera MyChart is a secure online health connection where patients can see their medications, test results, visit history, upcoming appointments, medical bills, price estimates and more all in one place, even if they've been seen at multiple health care organizations.
With MyChart, patients can:
"This is a transformational project for Avera. What we are building together is a stronger, more connected system that will serve our patients and communities for decades to come, said Kevin Post, DO, Avera Chief Medical Officer.
Avera patients and health insurance members of record are receiving communications about this change. Current patients and new patients will need to create a new account on or after May 30. Learn more, get updates, register and log in at Avera.org/AveraMyChart.
Most information will be transitioned to each patient's new Avera MyChart portal. The former AveraChart portal will provide view-only access for patients for a limited time.
Avera teams have been working diligently throughout the past two years to prepare for a successful Epic go-live. We ask for patience and understanding from people who access care on or right after the May 30 go-live date as staff are learning a new system.
Moving to a more robust portal is part of Avera's continued commitment to its mission to make a positive impact in the lives and health of persons and communities by providing quality services guided by Christian values.
"At Avera, our vision to provide high quality, cost-effective care reflective of gospel values has always been at the heart of what we do. With Epic, we will build on this vision by enhancing our ability to personalize every interaction," Post said.
The transition will yield improved access to information for patients and caregivers alike, better patient engagement, greater safety and improved outcomes.
"Our improved electronic health record will allow care teams more time to connect meaningfully with patients and focus on what truly matters-high quality and compassionate care," Post said.
Nationwide, more than 325 million patients have a current electronic record in Epic. It is the largest EHR provider in the country and holds the largest share of U.S. hospitals. Epic's MyChart app is the most downloaded health app in the country.
