Columbia Fire Department hosts Fire Prevention Week kickoff, Oct. 5

The Columbia Fire Department invites the community to the Fire Prevention Week Kickoff Event.

CFD will hold the event on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the University of MissouriHealth Care Pavilion, 1701 W. Ash St.

This year's theme is "Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home." With lithium-ion batteries powering everyday devices like phones, laptops, toys and power tools, it's important to use them safely to prevent overheating, fires or explosions.

Key tips include:

  • Buy only tested, listed products.
  • Charge on a hard surface using manufacturer-approved cords.
  • Recycle batteries properly-never throw them in the trash.

Fire Prevention Week is a free, family-friendly event that will feature food, games, demonstrations and safety tips for all ages. Enjoy a fun, educational day with your local first responders!
