Construction to Begin on Dayton-Xenia Road Widening Project

Construction on the long-anticipated Dayton-Xenia Road widening project is scheduled to begin in mid-July 2025, as the City of Beavercreek begins a yearlong effort to expand and improve one of its busiest streets.

Crews from Barrett Paving Materials, the contractor for the project, will begin by placing barrels and shifting traffic to the north side of Dayton-Xenia Road to establish a work zone along the south side. The traffic signal at the intersection of Dayton-Xenia and Hanes roads will also be replaced with a temporary signal to maintain normal traffic flow during construction.

The $3.7 million project will widen Dayton-Xenia Road to five lanes between Meadow Bridge Drive and Hanes Road, and to three lanes between Hanes Road and Darlington Drive. The project also includes new curbs and gutters, upgraded stormwater infrastructure, improved pedestrian facilities, and updated traffic signals at major intersections.

With school starting in August, the city is working closely with Beavercreek City Schools and will remain in contact as the school year approaches and progresses. City staff will coordinate with the district to make any necessary adjustments to signal timing to help maintain traffic flow through the corridor. Each phase of the project will also preserve a dedicated two-way left-turn lane, including in front of the school, to separate turning vehicles from through traffic, which will improve safety and reduce congestion.

Funding for the project includes $1.7 million in federal funds, $900,000 in state funds, and $1.1 million from the city's street levy. Dayton-Xenia Road will remain open to traffic during construction, though temporary closures of some side streets may occur. The project is expected to be completed by late 2026.
