The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, joined the Heads of State & Government, leaders of the Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) to the AU Support & Stabilisation Mission in #Somalia (AUSSOM), together with the leadership of the Federal Republic of Somalia, at the 2nd Extraordinary Summit held in Kampala, #Uganda.
The Chairperson expressed his profound appreciation to the Government & people of the Republic of Uganda for their generous hospitality & the excellent organisation of the Summit. He commended H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for convening the Summit& for Uganda's leadership & longstanding contribution to peace, security & stability in Somalia & the wider region.
He paid tribute to the Troop Contributing Countries & honoured the bravery, professionalism & sacrifice of the military, police & civilian personnel serving under AUSSOM, whose dedication continues to support Somalia's stabilisation & state-building efforts.
Reaffirming the AU's solidarity with the Government & people of Somalia, the Chairperson underscored the Union's commitment to accompanying Somalia on its path towards lasting peace, security & development.
He further stressed the importance of strengthening collaboration with international partners to secure predictable, adequate & sustainable financing for AUSSOM, while supporting Somalia's leadership & ownership of its peace, security & stabilisation agenda.
On the margins of the Summit, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf held a bilateral meeting with H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to exchange views on the evolving situations in the Great Lakes region & South Sudan. The Chairperson sought President Museveni's continued engagement & support in advancing inclusive dialogue& regional efforts aimed at achieving sustainable peace, security & stability in both contexts.
