New Permanent Representative of Norway presents credentials

VIENNA, 11 September (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Norway to the United Nations (Vienna), Rolf Einar Fife, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Monica Juma.

During his career, Mr. Fife has served in various capacities, among them:

Special Adviser to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Member of the UN International Law Commission (2023-present); Ambassador to the European Union, Brussels (2019-2023); Ambassador to France and Monaco (2014-2019); Director General of Legal Affairs and Legal Adviser, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2002-2014); Chair of the Council of Europe Committee of Legal Advisers on Public International Law (2008-2010); Deputy Director General for Legal Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1999-2002); Head of the Public International Law Section, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1997-1999); Head of the Unit for Law of the sea and UN law, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1993-1997); First Secretary, Permanent Mission to the United Nations, New York (1990-1993); Second Secretary, Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (1988-1990); Executive Officer, Unit for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Legal Department (1986-1987); and Executive Officer, Department of Polar Affairs, Ministry of Justice (1984-1985).

Mr. Fife holds a Candidatus Juris (LLM) degree from the Faculty of Law at the University of Oslo, from where he also received a degree in Arabic language studies.

Mr. Fife speaks English, French, Italian and Norwegian.
