State of Colorado Text Scam Alert

State of Colorado Text Scam Alert

Published on March 22, 2026

The Denver Clerk & Recorder is urging community members to be on alert for fake texts from the State of Colorado - Traffic Division (a made-up office) indicating "Notice of Default " and/or "enforcement action". Scammers are posing as the State with a fake signature from Clerk López to steal your money and information.

The Denver Clerk & Recorder is not associated with a traffic division or motor vehicle services of any kind. We will NEVER demand payment via text for any reason.

To stay safe, don't click any links or scan QR codes, don't reply to the text (even "STOP"), and alert our office at 720-913-VOTE if you suspect a scam.
