Albany County Announces Upcoming Auction of Saint Rose Neil Hellman Library Books

Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy today announced that the general collection from the former College of Saint Rose Neil Hellman Library will soon be made available through public auction through a partnership with Auctions International.

These initial lots include thousands of titles covering education, history, science, theology, sheet music, and the arts. Community members, collectors, educators, and alumni will have the opportunity to purchase books and other remaining library materials as part of the effort to responsibly transition the collection following the closure of the College of Saint Rose. Additional lots will be offered in the coming months.

"The former College of Saint Rose meant a great deal to this community for many years, and the Neil Hellman Library was a big part of that experience for students and faculty alike," said AlbanyCounty Executive Daniel P. McCoy. "We know there are many alumni and residents who would appreciate the chance to own a piece of that history and give these books a new home."

Albany County has worked with partners throughout this process to help preserve and distribute as many materials as possible to schools, organizations, and institutions that could continue putting them to use. The Archives of Saint Rose were transferred to the Carondelet Consolidated Archives in St. Louis and other books have already been donated to the University at Albany and the Albany Institute of History & Art. The remaining inventory, roughly 150,000 general collection books, will now be opened to the public through these upcoming sales.

Additional details, including auction dates and bidding information will be announced soon. Residents are encouraged to follow Albany County's official social media channels for update.
