MCGA Applauds Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet’s Leadership in Advancing the Farm Bill

LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan Corn Growers Association (MCGA) today applauded Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) for her important role in advancing the Farm Bill out of the House Agriculture Committee.

"We want to thank Representative McDonald Rivet for her leadership and vote to support the 2026 Farm Bill in the House Committee on Agriculture," said Chad Bauer, president of the Saginaw County chapter of the Michigan Corn Growers Association. "This bill addresses many policies that are important to Michigan's corn growers and rural communities, and we were pleased to see it pass out of the committee. We urge the House and Senate to work together to pass a bipartisan Farm Bill as quickly as possible."

Michigan's corn industry is a cornerstone of the state's agricultural economy, with more than 2.3 million acres planted annually and billions of dollars in economic impact across the state.

"Congresswoman McDonald Rivet has demonstrated genuine understanding of what's at stake for Michigan's corn farmers," said Matt Smego, senior policy director of the Michigan Corn Growers Association. "Corn farmers are going into an expected 4th consecutive year of operating at a loss. Passing an updated Farm Bill would take some of the variability out of the equation and we are grateful for Congresswoman McDonald Rivet's leadership and willingness to work across the aisle to get this done."

The Farm Bill provides the foundational policy framework that Michigan corn farmers rely on - from crop insurance and farm safety net programs that protect against weather and market volatility, to commodity programs that provide an economic floor when prices fall. Without a strong, updated Farm Bill, Michigan's corn growers face unnecessary uncertainty heading into the planting season and beyond.
