La Plata County is issuing this public advisory to alert community members, vendors, and partner organizations about an active social engineering scam involving a fraudulent website impersonating the County. Scammers have registered and are using the domain lpc-gov.org, which closely resembles the County's legitimate domain, lpcgov.org (no hyphen). The fraudulent domain has been configured to redirect visitors to the real County website, creating the false appearance of legitimacy.
Individuals posing as La Plata County employees are contacting legitimate vendors and attempting to initiate fraudulent business transactions. The scammer has used the name "Adam Keenoy", though other aliases may be used. Communications may originate from email addresses ending in @lpc-gov.org. The intent appears to be financial fraud, including attempts to obtain payments, initiate unauthorized purchases, change shipping addresses, or alter vendor payment information.
