EU Specific Actions on border management, visa policy, law enforcement, migration, and policy innovation

A new booklet presents EU Specific Actions for border management, visa policy, law enforcement, migration, and policy innovation.

EU Member States are working together to address pressing challenges in the areas of migration, security, and border management. The European Commission is able to support this through additional EU funding in the form of a Specific Action, which provides targeted, flexible, and timely support under shared management.

A Specific Action comes from the budget of the Thematic Facility of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund, the Border Management and Visa Instrument or the Internal Security Fund. It enables Member States to implement projects of particular strategic importance for the EU by providing additional allocations to their programmes.

The selected projects respond to urgent needs, test innovative approaches, and/or strengthen cooperation in areas that directly impact the security and well-being of people across the EU. Specific Actions are launched through either competitive or targeted calls for expression of interest. The booklet includes five factsheets presenting targeted EU interventions through specific actions:

  1. EU support to Romania and Bulgaria in view of their Schengen accession
  2. Improving EU Member States' cooperation on Visa Policy
  3. Enhancing law enforcement cooperation in the EU
  4. EU dedicated support for fair and dignified migration management
  5. Encouraging European Policy innovation and development

Such actions reflect the EU's commitment to work hand-in-hand with Member States, delivering practical support and safeguarding the security, rights, and freedoms of all those living in the Union.

Since the launch of the first Specific Action in 2021, the European Commission has launched 39 calls for Specific Actions and selected projects for over EUR 1.7 billion.
