Pedestrian Safety Review Board to host 2026 Safety Summit

The Macon-Bibb County Pedestrian Safety Review Board (PSRB) is bringing community members together to talk about ways to make local streets safer for everyone.

The 2026 Safety Summit will be held Thursday, October 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Bibb County Professional Learning Center (2003 Riverside Drive). The free event is being held in recognition of National Pedestrian Safety Month and is open to the public.

Community leaders, safety advocates, and residents will come together for conversations focused on improving safety for people walking, biking, and driving throughout Macon-Bibb County.

During the summit, attendees will learn about ongoing pedestrian and roadway safety initiatives, hear from local experts and officials, and have an opportunity to share their own concerns and ideas for creating safer neighborhoods.

"Pedestrian safety affects every one of us, whether we're walking, biking, or driving," says PSRB Board Member Charise Stephens-Merriweather. "This summit gives us an opportunity to bring people together, share what's being done to make our streets safer, and most importantly, hear directly from our community about what they're seeing and experiencing. Creating safer streets takes all of us working together."

The summit is part of the PSRB's continued efforts to bring greater awareness to pedestrian safety and encourage everyone who uses Macon-Bibb's roads to play a role in preventing crashes and saving lives.

Everyone who attends will receive a free safety shirt and flashing armband, and a light lunch will be provided. One attendee will also win a new bicycle and helmet as a door prize.
