Honda to Invest in Modernization of All-terrain Vehicle Manufacturing Facility in North Carolina

November 11, 2025 - Swepsonville, NC
  • New investment expected to exceed $9.6 million, create 18 new jobs
  • Modernization to allow for in-house manufacturing of critical ATV parts
  • Includes new resource circularity solution to minimize production waste

Honda today announced a planned $9.658 million investment to modernize its North Carolina Manufacturing (NCM) plant, enabling associates at the facility to build critical all-terrain vehicle (ATV) parts in-house, including rear fenders, front fenders, side covers, ATV toolbox covers, and smaller items used in assembly for ATVs. Honda's investment will add new equipment, create 18 new jobs, and provide learning and upskilling opportunities for associates over the next five years.

"By equipping Honda North Carolina Manufacturing with important new capabilities to build key parts for our products right here at the facility, we can continue growing our ATV business in North Carolina," said Lynne Hedrick, site lead at NCM. "We are grateful for the continued support from Alamance County and look forward to the benefits this investment will provide to our associates and the region."

The modernization efforts will aim to enhance production flexibility and reduce operating costs by maximizing available production space. In alignment with Honda's global mission to reduce its environmental impact, the project also includes implementation of a resource circulation solution with a new plastic pelletizer to reuse scraps and minimize production waste. Additionally, the proposed updates will incorporate new equipment that uses electricity to reduce the plant's carbon footprint.

"We are excited to see continued growth and innovation by companies whose legacy is firmly here in Alamance County," said Ryan Moffitt, 2025 board chair for the Alamance Chamber. "Honda North Carolina Manufacturing is a fine example of investment in place that is furthering the future of business for our community."

Since its inception in Swepsonville in 1984, NCM has grown from building Honda lawnmowers to becoming Honda's exclusive facility for the manufacturing of ATVs in North America. In 2023, NCM added ATVs to its production lineup, launching a new powersports era at the longtime power equipment facility. This latest investment represents Honda's latest step toward strengthening the future of advanced manufacturing in North Carolina, further positioning the region as a hub for innovation and excellence in powersports production.

Honda Manufacturing in North Carolina

Honda North Carolina Manufacturing (NCM) began production in 1984 and today is the exclusive production source for all Honda all-terrain vehicle (ATV) models in North America, including the FourTrax series and TRX sports models. NCM continues to produce outdoor power equipment products for commercial and residential applications, including snow blowers, using domestic and globally sourced parts.

Located in Swepsonville, the nearly 650,000 square-foot facility employs 600 associates and represents a capital investment totaling more than $395 million. The facility is one of 12 major Honda production facilities in the U.S. Many of the products built at the plant were researched, designed and developed by Honda R&D engineers in nearby Haw River, N.C.
