Local immigrants and refugees will have greater access to information and resources through the addition of the city's Community Resource Guide for Immigrants and Refugees on the ResilienceNet app.
The guide is produced by the city of Aurora's Office of International and Immigrant Affairs, and is being launched on the app in collaboration with One World Strong and Amigos de Mexico. The Community Resource Guide provides a list of resources offered by the city of Aurora, nonprofit organizations, school districts, counties, consulates and community partners. Making the guide available on the ResilienceNet app, compatible with Android and iOS, opens a new communication channel to connect the local immigrant and refugee communities with this resource.
"We are very pleased to partner with the city of Aurora's Office of International and Immigrant Affairs on this innovative project; the launch of the Community and Resource Guide as part of the ResilienceNet mobile application in Aurora is a significant step forward towards empowering the immigrant and refugee communities," said One World Strong Foundation's President and Executive Director, Dave Fortier. "The Resilience Net app will offer easy mobile access to vital information, resources and services locally, this new tool also fosters a sense of belonging and community, which is crucial for the well-being and success of all residents."
The organization Amigos de Mexico, an award-winning, nonprofit 501 C-3 organization based in Aurora, will support this initiative through community outreach efforts, promoting the mobile version of the guide through social media and community events.
As a city and not a county, Aurora does not provide direct health or social services, but the city's Office of International and Immigrant Affairs partners with local community organizations to connect immigrants and refugees to available resources. Therefore, this initiative contributes to OIIA's mission of facilitating the successful integration of immigrants and refugees into Aurora's civic, economic and cultural life.
Although the guide may not capture all the resources available locally, it includes helpful information on programs and organizations that are connected to other cities or valuable community partners. People seeking health, legal and education services are advised to contact the appropriate health department, county or school district or seek assistance from community organizations to find programs and resources in these areas.
An electronic copy of the guide, as well as details about accessing the ResilienceNet app, can be found at AuroraGov.org/OIIA.
Note: The ResilienceNet app is not owned or operated by the city of Aurora.
