Credit institutions’ interest rate statistics for July 2026

Statistical indicators of interest rates[1] of credit institutions on their main sources of funds in euros in July 2026 point to a continued stagnation of interest rates on short-term sources of funds since the second half of 2025. Interest rates on long-term sources of funds recorded a growth accompanied by increased volatility.

As regards the main sources of funds obtained by credit institutions from the household sector, the average of interest rates on savings deposits stood at 0.17% in July 2026, up by 0.01 percentage points from July last year. The average of interest rates stood at 1.45% for short-term time deposits and 1.14% for long-term time deposits. Compared with July 2025, this is an increase by 0.06 and 0.39 percentage points for short-term deposits and long-term deposits, respectively. Relative to April 2026, the average of interest rates on short-term deposits grew by 0.09 percentage points, while the average of interest rates on long-term deposits rose by 0.20 percentage points.

The averages of interest rates on time deposits of non-financial corporations reached 2.03% for short-term deposits and 1.80% for long-term deposits in July 2026. Compared with July 2025, short-term deposits increased by 0.23 percentage points, while long-term deposits rose by 1.04 percentage points. Relative to April 2026, the average of interest rates on short-term deposits grew by 0.19 percentage points, while the average of interest rates on long-term deposits rose by 0.91 percentage points.

In July 2026, statistical indicators of interest rates of credit institutions for the most important types of euro loans have largely continued to hover around the levels recorded in the second half of the year before.[2]

As for the main categories of household loans, the highest average of interest rates in July 2026 of 5.58% was recorded for loans in the form of transaction account overdrafts. The lowest average of interest rates in July 2026, of 2.91%, was seen in housing loans. In July 2026, the average of interest rates on general-purpose loans and other loans stood at 5.29%, while for credit card loans[3] it was 3.49%.

For the main categories of loans granted to non-financial corporations in July 2026, the average interest rate was 3.09% for short-term loans and 3.80% for long-term loans. In annual terms, short-term loans and long-term loans increased by 0.20 and 0.24 percentage points respectively. On a quarterly level, short-term loans went up by 0.08 percentage points, while long-term loans declined by 0.09 percentage points.
