Grandmothers Legacy of Love Butterfly Sculpture Garden Hosts Butterfly Release Ceremony as a Tribute to Transformation

On Sunday, September 7, 2025, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, and District 4 City Commissioner Patty Sheehan invite the community to celebrate the grand opening of the Grandmothers Legacy of Love Butterfly Sculpture Garden at Lake Eola Park, near the Sperry Fountain in celebration of the Orlando Land Trust.

This butterfly release event will honor the Orlando Land Trust's ongoing commitment enhancing the park's beauty and further contribute to preserving Lake Eola as Orlando's signature park. At the event, grandparents and grandchildren will join together to let butterflies fly free as a tribute to transformation.

The Orlando Land Trust's mission is to preserve, protect and improve green spaces for a healthier, more vibrant Orlando. This expansion of Lake Eola Park furthers the goal of Project DTO to enhance downtown Orlando by adding more green space and provide another unique gathering spot for residents, workers and visitors. For its inaugural project, Orlando Land Trust committed to the expansion Lake Eola Park by helping to acquire the southwest corner of Lake Eola Park and then, convert it into a welcoming public space.

This project includes a renovation of the area surrounding the Sperry Fountain to include a wider, more welcoming stairway, new pavers, new seating and refreshed landscaping.
