Pasadena Water and Power to Resume Critical Power Infrastructure Improvements

PASADENA, Calif.- Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) will resume critical upgrades to underground electrical vaults at various locations throughout the city. This work is part of a long-term initiative to strengthen the reliability and resilience of Pasadena's electric system.

Construction will take place intermittently through November 2025, pause during December 2025, and resume in January 2026, with completion anticipated by June 2026.

As part of this effort, PWP will be upgrading electrical vaults along Del Mar Blvd. - between Fair Oaks Blvd. and San Gabriel Blvd. - as well as portions of East Colorado Blvd. Overall, this work will take place at select power vault locations within the Public Right of Way, spanning approximately 4.5 miles and covering 30 vaults across the city. Construction will first take place on Del Mar Boulevard between Chester Avenue and Hill Avenue. No work will occur during the holiday or citywide moratorium periods.

This project also supports the integration of renewable energy resources into Pasadena's grid, advancing the City's goal of sourcing 100% carbon-free electricity by the end of 2030.

To minimize community impact, this work will be conducted overnight. Occasionally, work will take place from 9 p.m. to 12 p.m. (noon) the following day, for a select few days per location. There will be no disruption to power or water service for PWP customers as a result of this project.

To meet energy demand during this work, PWP will utilize the Glenarm Power Plant during off-peak hours. No construction activity - related to this project - will take place at the power plant.
