After 18 Years of Transformational Leadership, DISC Village CEO John Wilson Announces Retirement

After nearly two decades leading DISC Village, CEO John Wilson has announced his retirement effective March 27. During his tenure, Wilson expanded behavioral health services, strengthened prevention programs, and increased access to care across North Florida.

Over 18 years, Wilson guided the organization through significant growth, expanding services across eight counties and deepening its role as a trusted community partner. He prioritized high-quality, integrated care, particularly for rural communities, ensuring services remained responsive to the needs of individuals and families.

Under Wilson's leadership, DISC Village broadened its continuum of care with new service lines, including Medication Assisted Treatment, enhanced prevention programming, residential services, and community-based support. Central to this work was bringing care directly to underserved communities so individuals could access services close to home.

Wilson oversaw the development of rural service models, expansion into additional counties, and the establishment of facilities tailored to the needs of North Florida communities, efforts that increased both access to and trust in behavioral health services across the region.

Wilson's leadership was defined by a people-first approach grounded in compassion, accountability, and collaboration. He consistently emphasized the power of teamwork and a shared mission.

"It's not about any one person. It's about the team and how we bring our resources, knowledge, and experiences together to help people," Wilson said.

He also championed meeting individuals where they are and removing barriers to care, reinforcing DISC Village's commitment to nonjudgmental, supportive services.

"We were there to help people do better for themselves and improve their situation and their families."

Jordan Cowart will succeed Wilson as Chief Executive Officer, with Jennifer Travieso moving into the role of Chief Operating Officer. Both leaders have been instrumental in the organization's growth and bring extensive experience in behavioral health and community-based services.

Wilson expressed full confidence in the organization's future under their leadership.

"I have nothing but confidence that they'll continue to make DISC Village successful, bigger and better," he said.

Wilson's retirement closes a 45-year career in behavioral health marked by a dedication to service, innovation, and community impact. His work leaves a strong foundation for DISC Village to build on.

Going forward, the organization remains focused on expanding access to care, strengthening prevention efforts, and ensuring individuals and families across North Florida have the support they need to pursue healthier futures.
