(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Ned Lamont released the following statement regarding today's U.S. Supreme Court decision affirming that President Donald Trump does not have the authority to issue sweeping tax increases in the form of tariffs without Congressional approval:
"Today the Supreme Court made it clear that presidents do not have the unilateral authority to implement tax increases on Americans in the form of tariffs without Congressional approval. These tariffs have been doing nothing but increasing the costs of groceries, clothing, and other essential goods and Americans have been paying the price.
"At a time when my administration is focused on bringing down costs for businesses and families, these tariffs did the opposite. My administration will continue fighting against policies like this that raise costs for working families. I am appreciative of Connecticut's Congressional delegation and Attorney General Tong's office for fighting against these unlawful backdoor tax increases."
