UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

UW astrophysicist Adam Myers, who played a key role in the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument project that produced the largest-ever high-resolution 3D map of the universe, is quoted in a Smithsonian Magazine article. Managed by the U.S. Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the international effort involves over 900 researchers, about one-third of whom are Ph.D. students, from more than 70 institutions, including UW.

UW economist Matt Burgess and Ph.D. student Finbar Curtin are publishing a study that questions whether the economic effects of climate change can be accurately measured based on the historical record. Their work was highlighted in Wall Street Journal and New York Post articles and on Fox News.

A Cowboy State Daily article features WYPulse, the university's new 58-Tesla pulsed high magnetic field experimental system. UW is one of only three academic institutions in the United States with access to a pulsed magnet facility of this class.

UW Vice President for Research and Economic Development Parag Chitnis was interviewed by Wyoming Public Media. He described how UW's research enterprise benefits the state.

The newly approved Bridger Pipeline, which will carry up to 550,000 barrels per day of Canadian crude oil to the Gulf Coast through part of Wyoming, is likely to bring a significant wave of high-paying construction work, long-term pipeline jobs and higher tax revenues for Wyoming's oil and gas industry, UW economist Rob Godby told Cowboy State Daily.

UW Extension's free, six-week webinar series on wildfire-related topics was publicized by Buckrail. The webinars offer practical knowledge, expert perspectives and actionable steps for communities to take to stay resilient.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle picked up UW's release about the UW debate team's performance at national competitions, as well as a release about upcoming honorary degree recipients Bob Beck and Jay Kemmerer.

The Sheridan Press published UW's release about the UW student team that earned multiple runner-up finishes at the International Business Ethics and Sustainability Case Competition.
